Self Care Tip: Establish Your Daily Routines

Scheduling your entire life may or may not sound appealing to you, but after I started doing it a few years ago, my entire lifestyle changed. I was able to incorporate more healthy habits into my life, spend time with my kids more often, and work an appropriate amount of hours, and still have time to have fun as a single mom.

Although, I understand completely that not everyone needs to live this way because this way of living (scheduling every minute of your day) mostly works for busy individuals like business owners, single parents, and maybe even college students.

In the past, I wrote Tips to Get Your Business Calendar & Schedule More Organized, and if you haven’t already done so and if you’re looking for how to get started, I recommend you start there.

Once you’re all set with a life schedule on a physical planner, focus on establishing your routines by digitalizing it.

Here are some tips to help you implement a digital life calendar:

  1. Create multiple calendars for every category of your life. For example: routines, home, work, fitness, social, etc. If you’re prefer it, color code them too. This helps with visualization but it also makes your calendar look cute (if you care about that).
  2. Add your daily activities and set them to repeat. Make a list of your daily activities and what you wish to accomplish every day, add them individually to the right category on your calendar, and then set them to repeat as often as you want. This can look like adding your 30 minute morning routine to repeat every day at 7:00 am, or weekdays at 7:00 am and weekends at 9 am. It’s your life schedule, so build it in a way that works for you.
  3. Stay consistent. This doesn’t mean do everything, every single day; it means try to accomplish enough every single day.
  4. Modify your schedule every day. When you schedule your entire life on a digital calendar, and see a visual of what your days look like, it can get overwhelming. This is why I recommend that you review your schedule weekly and daily, and modify it based on how you’re feeling or how many high priority tasks you have scheduled. You may want to omit a few personal habits one day to accomodate a meeting or appointment. Alternatively, you may find yourself unexpectedly free and choose to add more self fulfilling activities.
  5. It’s okay to fall behind even when you have a set life schedule. There will be days when you feel like nothing is attainable or simply overwhelmed with a heavy day. It’s okay to push back some things that aren’t priorities; it’s also okay to clear off your schedule to rest until you’re fully recharged. The great thing about digital calendars is that you can delete single events from your repeating ones so you always have a starting point when you make a comeback.

I hope these tips work for you and motivate you to build your own life schedule using your digital calendar.
